Sometimes the holidays can be merry and bright. Other times, when our soul has been pierced, the holidays produce a gaping wound. This week in our VLOG we are going to look at a practical and timely book by Anita Brooks entitled Getting Through What You Can’t Get Over.
Sometimes Holidays Are Hard
When Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the temple on the eighth day, as was the custom, Simeon and Anna both delivered great news. Simeon, however, followed up with a sober warning to Mary regarding her future as Jesus’ mother. Joseph did not receive this same somber news. Sometimes, when our souls are pierced, we bear the wound alone.
Hope To Get Through
What do we do in such instances? Anita comes alongside of us providing hope and encouragement. We take comfort knowing that brave women like Mary walked before us in the strength of the LORD. And while she probably never got over the devastation she experienced in the loss of two sons and presumably also her husband, she somehow made it through it.
