How Does Jesus Change Your Life?
The Church keeps preaching an unchristian message. And it’s wrecking our faith. What I’m about to say will sting. It did when God first revealed it to me. But if we’re going to finally get to the bottom of why we sit in church week after week and nothing changes, it must be shared.
Why our marriages remain rocky.
How our hearts rumble with restlessness.
Why we’re bored with Bible Study.
We bought into this unchristian message. And it’s killing us. I share it in this video. Please don’t keep reading until you watch it.
Inviting Revival
Until we realize our faith is meant for something beyond ourselves, we will wrestle. We were meant to change the world with the Good News. But we keep wondering why Jesus isn’t changing us. We remain focused on ourselves. What if the whole plan for us to become changed comes by watching Him change others through us? The unchristian message to remain focused on ourselves and our own growth actually hinders His work in us. Until we start reaching out and loving those around us, nobody becomes changed. We sit in our Bible studies week after week wondering why we keep wavering in our faith. Meanwhile Jesus holds out His hand nudging us out the door to go share it.
The Purpose of the Bible
Jesus recently brought me to a quote that stopped me in my tracks. The Bible is not a book to be explained as much as it is a book to be obeyed. I keep opening it waiting for some explanation or revelation to free me from myself. But I’m realizing something. The freedom comes through obedience. It’s when I do what the Scripture says the transformation happens. And Jesus said I need to be His messenger. I need to love my neighbor. I need to share His love with the world. No wonder we sit through semesters of Bible study and feel unsatisfied. We applaud being saturated with knowledge over stretched in selfless service. Maybe instead of insisting we need to know more, we start faithfully putting into practice what we have already learned.
Reach
My word for 2022 is reach. Slowing down so Jesus can speak and send me where He will. Yes, this includes Bible study. But it also means heading next door, down the hall, around the campus, and across the kitchen table. Because the gospel isn’t all about me. And maybe, just maybe, as I follow Unexplainable Jesus into new areas of obedience, I’ll finally learn to stop worrying so much about little ol’ me and go live An Unexplainable Life.
